After starting as a men's team in 1983, the modern team is made up of men, women, and youth paddlers ranging from 13 to 65 years of age. Most of us are working professionals with jobs and families, living right here in the greater Philadelphia area.
Under the direction of Team USA and Philadelphia Dragon
Boat Association Head Coach Bob McNamara, we have brought home the IDBF
Nations Cup Trophy as Overall World Champions two times: Sydney 2007, and Tampa 2011.
11th IDBF Nations World Championships are in the books, and Team USA
had a very successful regatta. The biggest successes came in the 1000
Meter races on Thursday, July 25. The Premier Mixed staged a
come-from-behind win in the Grand Final to take Gold over Canada, and
the Senior A Mixed won their first Gold in 12 years over Germany in a
photo finish (0.04 second margin of victory).
The US Team
brought home medals in every division, at nearly every distance: Premier
Open, Premier Mixed, Premier Women, Senior A Open and Mixed, Senior B
Open and Mixed, and Senior C Open and Mixed.
